Welcome to the 21th Nippon Connection ONLINE Film Festival!
One year ago, Nippon Connection took place as an online festival for the first time. Japan's cinema and culture were just one click away, even though the big screens and the aroma of Japanese delicacies were dearly missed. This year again, the digital space will be our festival center, and we have made the best of it: an exciting program to get you through the lockdown at home!
From June 1 to 6, 2021, we present more than 80 short and feature-length films via video on demand. This year's program focus FAMILY MATTERS – THE JAPANESE FAMILY BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNITY, supported by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain, will highlight the images of traditional and modern families in Japan. In the cinema of the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, a retrospective on the legendary actress and female director Kinuyo TANAKA will be held in the course of the year. Our supporting program will include various workshops, lectures, discussions and much more with virtual guests from all over the world. At the NIPPON CLICK & COLLECT KIOSK in the Mousonturm, our audience can purchase T-shirts, drinks and snacks by pre-ordering. Our NIPPON ONLINE MARKET again presents a wide range of digital offers for everything around Japan. We are deeply grateful to Angela Dorn (Hessian Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts), Peter Feldmann (Lord Mayor of the City of Frankfurt) and the Consulate General of Japan in Frankfurt am Main for their patronage and to all the supporters and sponsors for their generous contributions!
Welcome to virtual Japan, welcome to Nippon Connection 2021!
